Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane on Monday scored in stoppage-time to give Tunisia a 1-0 win in Equatorial Guinea and qualification for the FIFA 2026 World Cup.
Victory for Tunisia gave them an unassailable lead in Group H and they became the second African nation to secure a place at the tournament after 2022 semi-finalists Morocco.
Tunisia have 22 points from eight games, 10 more than second-placed Namibia, who have one match in hand, but cannot match the total of the Carthage Eagles.

Substitute Ben Romdhane, a midfielder with Egyptian and African giants Al Ahly, struck in the 94th minute after being set up by Firas Chaouat.
He also scored the only goal, from a penalty, when Tunisia beat Equatorial Guinea last year.
“When Firas Chaouat received the ball in the final moments, I knew he was going to get the better of the Equatorial Guinean player,” Ben Romdhane told Tunisian TV.
“So I moved forward and put myself in a good position to score,” added the 26-year-old, who joined Al Ahly this year from Hungary’s Ferencvaros.
“It was the toughest match of the qualifiers, and we expected it given the conditions, the pitch and the humidity,” fellow midfielder Ferjani Sassi said. “We knew how to adapt to the circumstances. They had many chances, but we were ready. We believed in ourselves until the very end.”
Tunisia started the match in Malabo with players based in nine nations, including Hannibal Mejbri from English Premier League side Burnley.
The Eagles are coached by former centerback Sami Trabelsi, who captained Tunisia at the 1998 World Cup in France.
Tunisia have now qualified seven times for the World Cup, and will hope to improve on a record of only three victories in 18 matches and never progressing beyond the group stage.
Algeria need three more points to win Group G after a 0-0 draw against Guinea.
Uganda and Mozambique narrowed the gap behind Algeria to four points with 2-0 victories over Somalia and Botswana respectively.
Algeria are away to bottom team Somalia and host Uganda next month, and seem set to secure World Cup qualification for a fifth time.
Morocco demonstrated their strength in depth by resting several stars, including Paris Saint-German fullback Achraf Hakimi, in a 2-0 Group E victory over Zambia in Ndola.
A capacity 50,000 crowd saw Youssef en Nesyri score early in the first half and Hamza Igamane even earlier in the second.
Morocco, who eliminated Spain and Portugal en route to the 2022 semi-finals, boast the only 100 percent record in Africa qualifying, winning seven matches.
Group I leaders Ghana moved closer to a fifth World Cup appearance in six editions by edging Mali 1-0 in Accra through an early second-half goal from Alexander Djiku.
Ghana have 19 points, three more than Madagascar.
Top seeds Mali can no longer win the group and their sole hope of survival lies in being among the best four second-placed teams.
Jonas Vingegaard on Tuesday claimed the overall Vuelta a Espana lead while Jay Vine earned the stage 10 victory for his second triumph of the race. Two-time Tour de France winner Vingegaard overhauled Torstein Traen’s lead to head the general classification by 26 seconds from the Norwegian, with Joao Almeida third and trailing the Dane by 38 seconds. Vine put in an unmatchable performance on the final climb to finish ahead of Spanish Movistar riders Pablo Castrillo and Javier Romo. “Back in red, I’m happy with it, it’s a beautiful jersey,” Vingegaard said. “I’m happy with how the day went,
The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up a brief visit to Brazil on Friday with a season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, but despite the defeat, the team outshone their divisional rivals in the fight for the hearts and minds of Brazilian fans. In Sao Paulo for just the second-ever NFL game in the city, Chiefs players — especially quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce — were treated as major celebrities throughout their stay, turning Corinthians Arena into a scene reminiscent of the Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium. Before kickoff, crowds of fans gathered around the Chiefs’ tunnel, eager to catch a

New Zealand stayed firm at their Eden Park fortress to claim an attritional 24-17 win over South Africa in a heavyweight clash between the world’s top two rugby sides yesterday. Under pressure after conceding a first-ever defeat on Argentine soil against the Pumas two weeks ago, the All Blacks responded with a performance of grit and discipline to stretch their unbeaten run at their Auckland stronghold to 51 matches. Two well-taken tries by Emoni Narawa and Will Jordan set up a 14-3 lead at halftime before Quinn Tupaea grabbed a third five-pointer for the hosts 13 minutes from time. Well-held for most of
