Taiwanese veteran golfer Yani Tseng said she was proud of herself for making the cut at the Women’s British Open in Wales — the first time she has advanced at a major LPGA tour in seven years.
“I’m proud of myself because I never gave up,” Tseng told reporters after completing her second round on Friday.
A two-time British Open champion, Tseng shot an even-par 72 in the first round. In the second round, she carded four birdies and five bogeys for a 1-over 73, finishing in a tie for 35th alongside 17 other players.

It was the first time she made the cut at an LPGA event since the 2018 Swinging Skirts Taiwan Championship.
Tseng said she is excited to make it this far and wants to enjoy the rest of the tournament, not knowing what kind of result to expect.
“After all, it’s been a while since I’ve played into the weekend. I hope to play more aggressively and do my best,” she said.
The Women’s British Open is a 72-hole stroke play tournament that begins with 144 players. The top 65 and ties after 36 holes advance to the weekend.
Once ranked No. 1 in the world, Tseng has spent recent years battling injuries and mental challenges. She said it has taken considerable effort to return to form.
Reflecting on her journey, Tseng described her relationship with golf as a “love-hate” one, but said that she still finds joy in the game.
“I’m still passionate about golf. I want to see the best version of myself and return with good performances,” she said.
Meanwhile, fellow Taiwanese golfer Hsu Wei-ling also made the cut and was tied for 19th after two rounds on Friday.
