Newly crowned NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on Thursday led the Oklahoma City Thunder to an imposing 118-103 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves to open up a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals.
Gilgeous-Alexander was presented with his MVP award on court before the game, but any suggestions that the celebrations would distract from the task at hand quickly evaporated.
Roared on by a loud and passionate home crowd, the Canadian top-scored for the Thunder with 38 points, and added eight assists and three rebounds in his fifth straight playoff game scoring more than 30 points.

Oklahoma head to Minnesota on the back of their 60th win by double figures this season and are in buoyant mood after following up on their Game 1 victory.
Oklahoma guard Alex Caruso said they were determined to ram home their early advantage.
“It’s human nature, the tendency is to kind of let off the gas,” Caruso said.
“I thought we did a good job of coming out first half, getting the lead, kind of holding it and then extending it in the third and finishing it through the fourth quarter,” he added.
The Timberwolves would take some encouragement from a strong showing from Anthony Edwards, who after disappointing in Game 1, posted 32 points with six assists and nine rebounds.
However, if they are to fight their way back into this series they would need to tighten up their defense, improve on 41.4 percent field-goal shooting and get more out of Julius Randle.
He was restricted to six points on two-for-11 shooting and was left on the bench in the fourth quarter.
After a tight first half, the game was won by a blistering third quarter from the Thunder, who outscored Minnesota by 14 points.
A Chet Holmgren alley-oop dunk with 2 minutes, 54 seconds left in the quarter opened up an 82-65 lead.
Although the Timberwolves were able to reduce the deficit to 10 points in the fourth, the outcome was never in real doubt.
Jalen Williams had 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Holmgren added 22 points for the Thunder, and their defense was dominant in the crucial phases of the game.
Edwards finished just one-for-nine from three point-range and his 32 points came from 26 shots.
Gilgeous-Alexander said Oklahoma’s ability to go on strong runs had its roots in their defense.
“It feels good. It starts with getting stops though, it always does. We get stops, we’re able to play fast, play to our strengths, play in the open court, be special,” he said.
Game 3 is to be held at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, today and Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch was hopeful his team could battle back into the series.
“Every minute in the series is a chance to find something. So we’re going to go back home and fight for Game 3 and heads up, look at the tape and get ready,” he said.
SSC Napoli will have to wait one more week to seal the Serie A title after on Sunday being held to a goalless draw at Parma, while closest rivals Inter drew 2-2 in a dramatic game with SS Lazio. Antonio Conte’s team stayed one point ahead of Inter and were unfortunate not to win after twice striking the woodwork through Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Matteo Politano, while Scott McTominay also had a free-kick tipped onto the crossbar. The away side thought they would be handed a chance to take the points from the penalty spot in the 96th minute when David Neres
Omar Marmoush’s stunning long-range strike on Tuesday upstaged Kevin de Bruyne on the Manchester City great’s Etihad farewell. To be in the Champions League after what happened [this season] will be really nice,” the City manager said. De Bruyne was making his final home appearance for City before
Brighton & Hove Albion’s Jack Hinshelwood on Monday sealed a dramatic 3-2 victory against Liverpool to leave the English Premier League champions without a win since clinching the title. Arne Slot’s side took the lead through Harvey Elliott’s early opener before Yasin Ayari equalized at the American Express Stadium. Dominik Szoboszlai restored Liverpool’s advantage just before halftime, but Brighton staged a late fightback as Kaoru Mitoma leveled before Hinshelwood came off the bench to net with his first touch. Liverpool have taken just one point from their three matches following the title-clinching rout of Tottenham Hotspur on April 27. The Reds have lost at
Logan O’Hoppe, Taylor Ward and Matthew Lugo homered, and the Los Angeles Angels spoiled Clayton Kershaw’s season debut, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-9 on Saturday night to take the first two games of the three-game series. Kershaw allowed three runs and threw 38 pitches in the first inning. The three-time National League Cy Young Award winner lasted four innings, giving up five runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Shoulder, toe and knee injuries limited Kershaw to seven games last season, and his 2025 debut was delayed as he recovered from multiple offseason surgeries. O’Hoppe had two hits with
