Five years into its history, the P. League+ is finally set to host its first-ever Game 7 in a championship series, after the Taoyuan Pauian Pilots defeated the Taipei Fubon Braves 83-67 on Monday.
The win at Taipei Heping Basketball Stadium, the Braves’ home court, tied the best-of-seven series 3-3, sending the finals back to the Pilots’ home court today, where they will seek their first title.

“Although we are a young team, we showed our resilience and relied on our defense today,” Pilots star Lu Chun-hsiang said after the game.
Lu, who had been relatively quiet in the first three games of the series, scored a game-high 19 points.
He has averaged 22.3 points over the past three games.
Widely regarded as the face of the franchise, Lu said he tried to lead by example when his teammates appeared less focused during the game.
“It’s not time to relax yet. We still have the most important game on Wednesday,” he said.
The Pilots controlled the pace for most of the night, leading 47-31 at halftime.
The Braves trimmed the deficit to 64-53 by the end of the third quarter and pulled to within five after opening the fourth quarter with a 10-4 run, but a pull-up jumper in the paint by Pilots point guard Pai Yao-cheng followed by a three-pointer from Lu kept the Braves at bay the rest of the way.
Braves acting coach Aaron Wu lamented his team’s missed opportunity to close out the series, pointing to their five-for-27 shooting from behind the arc as a major factor in the loss.
“You can’t beat the Pilots when you shoot threes like that,” he said.
In the Braves’ other two losses, they shot 18-for-74 (24.3 percent) from three-point range, compared with 35.3 percent (30-for-85) in their wins.
Wu said the Braves have generally defended the Pilots well — holding them to 83 points or fewer in all but two games — and was hopeful his team would deliver offensively today.
Meanwhile, Pilots head coach Iurgi Caminos praised his players for looking like “the old Pilots we’ve been on many days [this season].”
He said the key to today’s decisive game is to “play with the same mentality.”
“Our main goal is to stay as focused as we were today — in every single possession on both defense and offense. That mindset will make us a competitive team,” he said.
Game 7 is set to tip off at 7:30pm at the Taoyuan Arena.
‘DEVASTATED’: Argentina’s win was a reversal of their 28-24 defeat last week, with Australian forward Fraser McReight adding that ‘we did the same thing last week’ Argentina flyhalf Santiago Carreras punished an undisciplined Australia with 23 points off the tee as the Pumas held on grimly for a 28-26 win in Sydney yesterday to breathe new life into their Rugby Championship campaign. A try-fest beckoned in afternoon sunshine at Sydney Football Stadium, but Argentina needed only one through captain Julian Montoya, with Carreras doing the damage with seven penalties and a conversion in front of a sell-out crowd. A week after letting a 14-point lead slip in a 28-24 defeat to Australia in Townsville, Argentina saw most of a 21-point advantage erased in the final quarter as the
Captain Vijay Kumar led the way yesterday as the Hsinchu Titans claimed the Taiwan Premier League title at the Yingfeng Cricket Ground in Taipei’s Songshan District (松山), beating PCCT by 27 runs. The weather was a topic again, but not the rain that played a role in previous matches in the often-delayed tournament. Kumar, who made 80 not out from 63 deliveries, and teammate Vishwajit Kumar (58 from 43) rescued the Titans from a precarious state at the end of the power play in the T20 match. The visitors were put in to bat and struggled to 26-3 as PCCT
China’s state-run People’s Daily newspaper on Monday published an essay about Chinese basketball it said was written by LeBron James, but a representative for the NBA star said on Thursday that the article was based on a series of interviews. The paper, better known as the mouthpiece of the Chinese Communist Party, had said James authored the essay, “Basketball is a Bridge that Connects Us,” a tribute to Chinese players and fans of the sport written in the first person. “LeBron James Pens an Article in the People’s Daily,” read a post published on the newspaper’s official WeChat account. San Francisco Giants pitcher Teng Kai-wei impressed against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday despite an 8-1 loss in the opener of the team’s nine-game road trip. Teng, the only Taiwanese pitcher active in MLB, struck out five while allowing two hits and one walk over four innings at Chase Field to finish with a no decision, as the teams were tied 1-1 when he finished his outing. He surrendered the lone run of his outing in the bottom of the first, which began with a walk, a hit-by-pitch and two strikeouts. Diamondbacks leadoff hitter Geraldo Perdomo advanced to third on
