The gold medal went to Milad Karimi of Kazakhstan, who scored 14.666 points.
Tang, who won the bronze medal in high bar at the 2024 Paris Olympics, said he had performed the routine better during practice.
“I actually did that move well in recent practice, so I did not see that [fall] coming,” he said. “It is fine anyway. I believe I will find my groove soon once I better master some key skills.”
Twenty-eight-year-old Tang won a gold medal in the horizontal bar at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, where he also picked up the silver medal in the floor exercise.
Tang is to fly to Doha for the next competition in the World Cup series, which is scheduled to be held from tomorrow to Saturday.
