Taiwanese athletes won a total of four gold and two silver medals at the Taekwondo Australian Open held in Brisbane as the senior events concluded on Saturday.
Pan Kuei-en, Huang Yu-jui, Hung Jiun-yi and Chen Liang-hsi, who competed in the men’s 74kg, 68kg, 80kg and 87kg divisions respectively, won gold.
Pan, after securing his second straight gold in the National Intercollegiate Athletic Games in May, defeated fellow Taiwanese Hsu Hao-yu, in the final.

Pan also won gold in the Oceania WT President’s Cup in the same division two days earlier.
Hsu, who lost to Pan, settled for silver.
Hsu said he was satisfied with the result considering that he switched to a heavier weight division and sprained his ankle before competing.
“I thought I might not be in a good condition, but I was actually more focused because of the injury,” he said.
Su Po-ya, an Olympian at the 2020 Tokyo Games, also won a silver in the women’s 53kg.
She advanced to the final match after defeating China’s Wang Xiaolu 2-0 in the semi-final.
However, Su was unable to maintain her winning streak in the final against Dunya Ali M Abutaleb of Saudi Arabia and lost 1-2.
She lost to the same opponent in the semi-final of the Asian Taekwondo Championships in Da Nang, Vietnam, in May.
The Taekwondo Australian Open was held on Saturday and yesterday, right after the two-day WT President’s Cup. Both competitions are G-2 games, meaning participants obtain ranking points based on their results.
Results at G-20 events — such as the Olympic Games — give contestants the highest ranking-points, while G-1 games reward fewer ranking points.
After letting another big lead slip with an error-strewn performance at the French Open on Wednesday, top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka felt like getting as far away from the courts as possible. “Just want to quit tennis right now,” Sabalenka said after wasting a lead of a set and two breaks in a 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 loss to Diana Shnaider in the women’s singles quarter-finals. “We’ll see in few days. Hopefully I’ll get back on track mentally.” Sabalenka’s wait for a first French Open title continues despite the four-time major winner leading 4-1 in the second set and being two points from victory while

For some, Cristiano Ronaldo remains the essential spearhead for Portugal’s FIFA World Cup bid, while others believe his presence would prevent Roberto Martinez’s strong side from flourishing. The debate around the five-time Ballon d’Or winner rages on, as it did at UEFA Euro 2024 and four years ago in Qatar — yet Ronaldo endures, ready to play in a record sixth World Cup. The 41-year-old remains a global superstar despite swapping the European elite for Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr, and is the leading men’s international goalscorer with 143 strikes. With 25 of those coming in 30 games under Martinez, the coach
