The United Arab Emirates’ Al Ain and Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal have one foot in the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League after winning their respective quarter-final first-leg matches on Tuesday.
While Al Ain comfortably beat Saudi giants Al Ittihad 2-0 at home, Al Hilal edged unlucky Al Sadd of Qatar 1-0 in Riyadh to go into the second leg next week with a slight advantage.
Ismail Ahmed and Asamoah Gyan scored in the second half of their quarter-final first leg in front of a capacity crowd at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in al-Ain city in Abu Dhabi.

The match produced some excellent soccer despite the hot and humid weather in the Emirates’ Garden City.
The two former Asian champions clashed twice in the group stages, with Al Ittihad winning one and the second match ending in a draw, but Al Ain were clearly motivated by thousands of cheering home fans and dominated the game throughout to emerge the deserving winners.
Ahmed broke the deadlock with a volley from inside the box in the 48th minute and Ghanaian Gyan — the lynchpin of the side in the group stages — grabbed the second in the 61st minute.
Gyan’s goal was his 11th in the tournament, putting him comfortably ahead of Saudi striker Nasser al-Shamrani, with seven.
Despite losing to Al Hilal, 2011 champions Al Sadd can still feel optimistic of overturning the deficit at home in Qatar next week.
The Qatari club were not short on motivation after drawing first blood in their domestic season by beating champions Lekhwiya 3-2 to win the Sheikh Jassim Cup last week.
However, they were distinctly unlucky on Tuesday, missing several chances before a powerful shot from close range in the 70th minute by Salman al-Faraj beat Al Sadd goalkeeper Saad al-Sheeb.
TIGHT FINISH: Napoli only needed to do the same as or better than Inter, who won their game against Como 2-0 on the same day, leaving Napoli with a one-point lead The two players who Antonio Conte wanted more than any others secured Napoli their second Serie A title in three years on Friday. Scott McTominay scored with an acrobatic bicycle kick before halftime and Romelu Lukaku doubled the lead with a solo goal after the break in the decisive 2-0 home win over Cagliari. Conte became the first coach to win the Italian championship with three different teams. “Everyone contributed to this — but the coach most of all,” Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo said. “Napoli needed him to get back on top. He’s phenomenal.” Comparing it to his three Serie A titles won

SSC Napoli coach Antonio Conte has dragged the team back from disaster and restored them to the top of Italian Serie A, but his future at the Scudetto winners is in doubt even after a triumphant season. The fiery 55-year-old has exceeded preseason expectations and bolstered his reputation as a serial winner by guiding Napoli to their fourth Scudetto, and second in three seasons. However, he might well be on his way in the summer after just one season at the helm as his charged relationship with Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has simmered throughout the campaign. Conte has said
