Ronaldo has now scored three goals in two matches after having scored just one in 14 games for Madrid and Brazil.
"What I liked most was the result. I really liked the way we played because we knew it would be a hard game against a well-organized team," Madrid coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo was quoted as saying by news agency Efe.
Sevilla and Villarreal are even with 52 points each, but Sevilla is third on head-to-head results. Villarreal has a game in hand.
Barcelona, which played without suspended captain Carles Puyol and injured leading scorer Samuel Eto'o, rebounded from its 4-2 loss to Madrid last week.
Deco, who missed the last game at Madrid through suspension, played a major part in the victory. Eto'o's replacement, Maxi Lopez, initially struggled in the first ever league game between the teams at Barcelona's stadium.
After Giuly's goal, Barcelona produced some excellent soccer, inspired by Ronaldinho, and had several chances to add to its winning margin.

Replays showed that Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko had a goal annulled for an incorrect offside call in the 10th minute.
"Shevchenko's goal was valid. But then we went ahead anyway and we didn't know how to close it out," Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti said. "When we went in front, we could have marked better by putting in [Alessandro] Nesta. But the team was playing well and I thought it was best to continue as we were."
Kakhabar Kaladze, who played in place of Nesta, got beat on the game-winning goal when Cozza was first to head in a cross by former Inter player Giovanni Pasquale.
Juventus improved to 70 points with the win, while Milan remained on 67.

When Brazilian midfielder Ze Maria and Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins scored for Inter, there were few cheers.
On Tuesday, the Milan derby was cut short when Inter fans threw flares onto the field, hitting Milan goalkeeper Dida on the shoulder.
