Thierry Henry scored twice as Arsenal maintained its lead atop the Premier League with a 4-1 win over Leeds, while rivals Chelsea and Manchester United also won Saturday.
Henry opened the scoring against the run of play in the eighth minute, taking a long Ashley Cole pass and working his way into the box before beating 'keeper Paul Robinson. Robert Pires made it 2-0 on another counterattack in the 17th minute. Henry scored after Dennis Bergkamp hit the post in the 32nd, and Gilberto Silva added the fourth in the 50th minute.
Alan Smith got a consolation goal for Leeds in the 63rd.

"We did chat about it, our dead balls, our attacking play, be wary of them off the counter," said Leeds manager Peter Reid. "We didn't deal with them at all. We did speak about it, but we didn't handle it.
Arsenal, the only undefeated team in the league, has 27 points. Chelsea, which beat Everton 1-0 away, has 26. Manchester United, a 3-0 winner over Portsmouth, is third with 25.
Four Arsenal players were given suspensions by the Football Association on Thursday following a fracas at Old Trafford in September. Henry said it was important to bounce back.

"One of the main things was to answer on the pitch after all those people were talking about Arsenal for the wrong things," Henry said. "[Sunday], they're going to talk about us for the right things."
Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri -- dubbed the "Tinkerman" for his squad-rotation policy -- made only one change from the team that beat Manchester City 1-0 last week, replacing Jesper Gronkjaer with Geremi in midfield. The move paid off, as Geremi's cross set up Adrian Mutu in the 49th minute.
Everton, which hasn't scored in four league games, had several good chances. Tomasz Radzinski missed in the first minute, and Alex Nyarko hit the post later in the half. Francis Jeffers couldn't put away a header in the second half.

"The first half was all for Everton," said Ranieri. "The second half for us was much better. Both teams could have won. But Chelsea won, so I'm pleased."
Diego Forlan, Cristiano Ronaldo and Roy Keane scored for United, which rebounded from a 3-1 home loss to Fulham last week.
"Winning is always satisfactory, particularly after last Saturday's disappointment," Manchester United Manager Alex Ferguson said. "But we deserved it. We played very well and kept a good momentum. We were far more lively."
Forlan, with three goals in three games, shot past Shaka Hislop in the 36th minute.
"He's done well, the lad," said Ferguson. "He's responded to the three games in a row."
Ronaldo scored on a free kick in the 80th minute, and Keane, another substitute, completed the scoring in the 82nd.
Earlier, Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy hit the crossbar and shot over the bar on a breakaway. Van Nistelrooy hasn't scored in six games in open play. Portsmouth has lost five of six.
Scottish Premier League
Chris Sutton scored a hat-trick as first-place Celtic beat Kilmarnock 5-0, while second-place Rangers downed Partick Thistle 3-1 in the Scottish Premier League.
Sutton opened the scoring on a penalty in the 21st minute. Stilian Petrov was brought down in the box by Gary McDonald, and referee Hugh Dallas pointed to the spot -- despite protests by Kilmarnock players. Sutton shot low to beat 'keeper Francois Dubourdeau.
John Hartson made it 2-0 with a header in the 70th minute, scoring for the first time in four games, and Sutton added the third six minutes later after combining well with Hartson and Henrik Larsson.
Shaun Maloney scored in the 84th minute from a Ross Wallace cross before Sutton converted another penalty in second-half injury time. Sutton now has nine goals this season.
Celtic leads Rangers by five points.
Rangers snapped a three-game winless streak in the league. Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta opened the scoring in the eighth minute on a free kick from just outside the box. Michael Mols made it 2-0 in the 40th minute, and Arteta got a second on a penalty in the 77th minute. Both players returned to the lineup after missing a League Cup game in midweek with minor injuries. James Grady had Partick's goal in the 82nd minute.
Bundesliga
After Bayern Munich lost another Bundesliga match Saturday, falling 2-0 to Schalke, disgusted goalie Oliver Kahn said he knew the reason why.
"We don't have any guts," the 'keeper said.
While Bayern, already disappointing this season, was getting beaten on a 11th minute penalty conversion by Tomasz Hajto and Niels Oude Kamphuis' 79th minute goal, the competition continued to march.
VfB Stuttgart used two goals by Germany forward Kevin Kuranyi to thrash Freiburg 4-1, vaulting top of the table and putting more distance between it and Bayern, the unanimous preseason pick to dominate the German league.
Unbeaten Stuttgart is six points clear of the fourth-placed defending champions, and Bayer Leverkusen could move seven ahead and top the table again with a win Sunday against Kaiserslautern.
Bayern was short-handed after defender Thomas Linke was ejected in the 32nd minute, but a listless Bayern didn't earn a single attempt on goal beforehand in front of 61,000 screaming fans inside the loud domed AufSchalke Arena.
"Schalke had their backs to the wall and played with passion, but I had hoped we would show more initiative and not just react," said a disappointed Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld, who had questioned his team's attitude last week.
Bayern did press on attack after the break, without appearing dangerous against a porous Schalke defense, one that had exited the German Cup last week in humiliating style -- yielding four goals in extra time.
The victory over Bayern was just the second time all season the 10th-placed team had picked up three points in its own stadium.
Stuttgart needed just three minutes to demolish Freiburg after Soumail Coulibaly was ejected in the 58th minute for his second card of the match. Christian Tiffert scored in the 62nd minute, Aliaksandr Hleb in the 64th and Kuranyi a minute later.
Spanish league
Ronaldo scored two goals and set the third Saturday as Real Madrid defeated Athletic de Bilbao 3-0 in the 10th round of the Spanish league and moved to the top of the standings.
The Brazilian ace took his tally to eight goals this season and now leads the scoring chart. It was Madrid's fifth straight win at home this season and put the defending champion ahead of Deportivo de La Coruna, which could only muster a 0-0 draw against lowly Murcia.
In another game, Racing de Santander beat Celta de Vigo 1-0.
Madrid leads the league with 23 points, one more than Deportivo. Valencia has 20 points and could go top if it beats Mallorca by four goals on Sunday. Osasuna, which was playing at Villarreal on Sunday, is fourth with 17.
Ronaldo stole the limelight, although Madrid also owed its victory to goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who made a string of saves to keep Bilbao goalless.
Ronaldo ended a three-game spell without a goal and continued his happy recent record against Bilbao. In the two teams' last meeting in June, the Brazilian scored twice as Madrid won 3-1 to lift the league title for a record 29th time.
This time, Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 34th minute, chesting down a loose ball before sending a right-footed volley past Bilbao goalkeeper Daniel Aranzubia.
David Beckham, fit again after missing Madrid's last two games with a strained right hamstring, received his third yellow card of the season in the 45th minute for a foul on midfielder Andoni Iraola.
Casillas ended the first half having made five important saves as the Basque team put the onus on attack in a brave attempt to gain its first away win of the season.
Ronaldo doubled his tally in the 55th minute with a spectacular goal in which he burst past two Bilbao defenders and evaded a third before firing home from the edge of the area.
Beckham came close to scoring 10 minutes later with a trademark free kick which Aranzubia just managed to tip onto the crossbar.
After Casillas had thwarted Bilbao again, Ronaldo laid on a simple third goal for Luis Figo in the 70th after charging defender Jesus Maria Lacruz and twisting past Asier del Horno.
Beckham received an ovation as he was substituted by Borja Fernandez with two minutes remaining, although the crowd quickly began to chant Casillas' name after he denied Bilbao with yet another reflex save.
Italian league
Marco Di Vaio scored a spectacular goal late in the match Saturday as Juventus rallied to draw 1-1 with AC Milan, leaving the two soccer powerhouses tied for first place in the Italian league.
The result of the Big Match at Milan's San Siro stadium kept La Juve and AC Milan four points clear of Lazio, which moved to third place after beating Udinese 2-1 earlier Saturday.
Undefeated after eight matches, both European champion Milan and defending champion Juventus are 7-1-0 with 20 points.
Jon-Dahl Tomasson, who started in place of injured Filippo Inzaghi, put the home team in front in the 65th minute as La Juve's off-side trap failed, allowing the Danish striker to kick the ball past goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon from a few meters.
Tomasson's goal came minutes after Di Vaio, left unmarked in AC Milan's penalty area, hit the post and Brazilian 'keeper Dida made consecutive sensational saves, again on Di Vaio and on a close-range shot by French striker David Trezeguet.
Di Vaio, who got a regular place in the Juventus lineup following a leg injury that sidelined star-forward Alessandro Del Piero, got his revenge in the 84th with a sensational long distance left-footed drive which sent the ball close to the post as Dida dived in vain.
"You need some luck and some sort of craziness to try and score a goal like this," Di Vaio said.
"It was a deserved draw for La Juve. We are happy with this result," said Di Vaio, who improved his season record of five goals.
Juventus coach Marcello Lippi was less diplomatic, claiming Juventus deserved a win.
"Dida salvaged Milan. A defeat could have been a scornful result for my team but also the draw is not satisfactory for me at least," Lippi said.
Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian premier who owns AC Milan, rushed back from a political and business trip to China to attend the match.
"The result was fair but I would have enjoyed a victory. It was a tough, difficult match," Berlusconi said.
The long-anticipated match between the league co-leaders was very tactical during the first half, with both teams unable to create any opportunity close to the nets.
If the Wild finally break through and win their first playoff series in a decade, Minnesota’s top line likely will be the reason. They were all over the Golden Knights through the first two games of their NHL Western Conference quarter-finals series, which was 1-1 going back to Minnesota for Game 3 today. The Wild tied the series with a 5-2 win on Tuesday. Matt Boldy had three goals and an assist in the first two games, while Kirill Kaprizov produced two goals and three assists. Joel Eriksson Ek, who centers the line, has yet to get on the scoresheet. “I think the biggest
Noelvi Marte on Sunday had seven RBIs and hit his first career grand slam with a drive off infielder Jorge Mateo, while Austin Wynn had a career-high six RBIs as the Cincinnati Reds scored their most runs in 26 years in a 24-2 rout of the Baltimore Orioles. Marte finished with five hits, including his eighth-inning homer off Mateo. Wynn hit a three-run homer in the ninth off catcher Gary Sanchez. Cincinnati scored its most runs since a 24-12 win against the Colorado Rockies on May 19, 1999, and finished with 25 hits. Baltimore allowed its most runs since a 30-3 loss to
From a commemorative jersey to a stadium in his name, Argentine soccer organizers are planning a slew of tributes to their late “Captain” Pope Francis, eulogized as the ultimate team player. Tributes to the Argentine pontiff, a lifelong lover of the game, who died on Monday at the age of 88, have been peppered with soccer metaphors in his homeland. “Francisco. What a player,” the Argentine Football Federation (AFA) said, describing the first pope from Latin America and the southern hemisphere as a generational talent who “never hogged the ball” and who showed the world “the importance of having an Argentine captain,
Arne Slot has denied that Darwin Nunez was dropped from Liverpool’s win against West Ham because of a training-ground row with a member of his coaching staff. The Liverpool head coach on Sunday last week said that Nunez was absent from the 2-1 victory at Anfield, having felt unwell during training the day before, although the striker sat behind the substitutes throughout the game. Speculation has been rife that the Uruguay international, whom Slot criticized for his work rate against Wolves and Aston Villa in February, was left out for disciplinary reasons. Asked on Friday to clarify the situation, Slot said: “He
