In early September 2024, Time magazine released its list of the “100 Most Influential People in AI 2024,” and among the prominent figures are three Taiwanese entrepreneurs. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) Chairman and CEO C.C. Wei, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) Chair and CEO Lisa Su were each featured. The list, divided into four categories—Leaders, Innovators, Shapers, and Thinkers—highlights what sets these individuals apart from their peers in the field of artificial intelligence.
Both Wei and Huang were placed in the Leaders category, joining the heads of Google, OpenAI, Meta, and Microsoft. Wei has served as TSMC CEO since 2018 and became chairman in June 2024. Wei has been instrumental in strengthening the company’s role in AI technology development, especially as the world’s only company capable of producing chips needed for advanced AI systems. His carefully curated public statements have been praised, particularly during a time of increased US-China tensions and the company’s global expansion. Under his leadership, TSMC has expanded its operations to the US, Germany, and Japan.
Huang, who also appeared on the 2023 list, was described by Time as a “rockstar” of the tech world, due in part to his signature leather jacket. He has been a driving force behind AI development through Nvidia’s leading Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), which power many AI applications. As a celebrity CEO, Huang exhibits the phenomenon known as “Jensanity” in Taiwan.

Su, who was included in the Innovators categ ory, has been celebrated for guiding AMD through one of Silicon Valley’s most tactical turnarounds. By leveraging the company’s strengths and forming tactical partnerships, she has helped AMD remain competitive in the fast-growing AI market.

There were 127,350 measles cases reported in Europe and Central Asia last year, double the number of cases reported the previous year and the highest number since 1997, an analysis by the WHO and UNICEF showed. Measles outbreaks in West Texas and New Mexico in the US are now up to more than 250 cases, and two unvaccinated people have died from measles-related causes. Measles is caused by a highly contagious virus that is airborne and spreads easily when an infected person breathes, sneezes or coughs. It is preventable through vaccines, and was considered eliminated from the US since 2000. In the US,
