Houdongkeng Waterfall used to go by the name of “Monkey Hole Canal,” because monkeys loved to gather here in the past. It was once listed as one of the eighteen attractions of Yilan. Although the monkeys have moved elsewhere, there is still no shortage of surprises in this place and it is said that visiting a monkey village during the year of the monkey can bring good luck.
Houdongkeng Waterfall is located in Baiyun Village on the outskirts of Jiaosi Township. The entrance is not very noticeable and it takes a five-minute climb along a mountain path to reach the place, however once you get there, trees and flowers abound and water descends majestically over a long cliff. There is only the sound of the waterfall, without noise from the city, making this place feel like paradise on earth.
There is a climbing route right by the waterfall. A climb along the steps with the rustling sound of the breeze in your ears, relaxes both the mind and the soul. At the end of the route, which is nearly one hundred meters long, you can stand on the top of the waterfall and get an eyeful of the Lanyang Plain. Legend has it that lovers who climb the waterfall route while holding their hands together will be a happy couple, and this lends the Waterfall a romantic atmosphere.

The waterfall is six meters in width and 25 meters in height. Underneath it is a pool called the “monkey hole,” the bottom of which is so deep that eyes cannot see the bottom. Along the climbing route are a diverse variety of trees and birds that do not stop singing. A leisure stroll in this place is pure bliss.

Computex, Asia’s biggest electronics conference, kicked off Monday in Taipei, and as in years past drew industry chieftains from Nvidia Corp.’s Jensen Huang and Qualcomm Inc.’s Cristiano Amon to Young Liu of Foxconn, which makes the bulk of the world’s iPhones and Nvidia servers. But while last year’s event was a celebration of the post-ChatGPT AI boom, executives this time are likely grappling with the uncertainty of the Trump administration’s effort to reshape the global trade order — disrupting a decades-old model for tech manufacturing. This year’s exhibition will of course feature the hardware required to bring artificial intelligence to life.
Have you ever wondered who decides what we see in a museum or how one artwork seamlessly connects to the next? Behind every thoughtfully arranged gallery space stands a curator, a skilled professional who combines art and storytelling to craft meaningful experiences. The term “curator” originates from the Latin word cura, meaning “to care.” Curators were originally caretakers of museum collections, but over time, their role has grown to include a broad range of responsibilities that extend far beyond preservation. Today, curators manage, organize and interpret collections in cultural institutions like museums and libraries. They research, acquire and catalogue
