It is a common occurrence on Internet forums to see women complain that they feel neglected by their partners, or that their partners have other things on their mind, because they have become addicted to photographing paid models outdoors, a hobby known as “waipai.”
Mike, an experienced waipai photographer says that “lust does not overpower men: men surrender themselves to lust,” thus implying that getting hooked on waipai is a choice. A waipai session can go on for two to three hours, and participants have to pay between NT$500 and NT$1,000 each time. For stay-at-home guys, this means that they only have to spend a few dollars to satisfy their dreams of getting close to and interacting with a beautiful woman, while the model makes a living and gains fame. This is also the reason why, every time a waipai session is organized, people who like to take pictures of the human body, and perhaps have other plans, flock around.
Mike says he has seen many examples of people addicted to waipai photography, including some who are so in love with it that they must take part in a waipai session every single day, and some who do it because they want to get to know beautiful women. Based on a long time of observation, Mike says people with money and time on their hands are doing OK as long as they are only interested in learning photography, but after a while, most people begin to feel that paying for a waipai session is an empty experience.

He says most hobby photographers join waipai groups because of their love for beauty, but adds that they must keep their distance from the models and evaluate their financial position and time and not forget about their families and work, otherwise it won’t be worth it.
