Starlux Airlines Co (星宇航空) yesterday debuted its Taichung operations by announcing three new international routes to Macau, Vietnam and Japan.
From the central Taiwan city, Starlux is to operate eight weekly flights to Macau, three to Da Nang, Vietnam, and three charter flights to Takamatsu, Japan, the carrier said in a news release.
The new routes from Taichung marked a milestone for the young airline, which previously flew to 23 destinations from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, Starlux chairman Chang Kuo-wei (張國煒) said at the flight inauguration ceremony.

To promote air travel to and from Taichung, a campaign is offering passengers flying with Starlux discounts of at least 30 percent from more than 100 local tourism operators, Lu said.
Taichung would also accommodate three more routes from budget airline Tigerair Taiwan Ltd (台灣虎航) starting from July 1, to Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan, as well as Busan, South Korea, she said.

The first city entirely built by a private company to be operational in east Africa, with about 25,000 people living and working there, it accounts for about two-thirds of all foreign investment in Kenya. Its low-tax status has attracted more than 100 businesses including Heineken, coffee brand Dormans, and the biggest call-center and cold-chain transport firms in the region. However, to some local politicians, Tatu City has looked more like a target for extortion. A parade of governors have demanded land worth millions of dollars in exchange
