Three local manufacturers were among those named as winners of the second annual AutoTronics Innovation Awards yesterday for their innovative fleet management, tracking and video and voice transmission products.
Products developed by Taiwan's Baoruh Electronics Co (寶錄電子), Aibelive Co (慧智網) and Systems & Technology Corp (康訊科技) won in the finished product category.
The winners will be honored on April 9, the opening day of this year's AutoTronics Taipei trade show, which showcases advanced electronics applications for the automotive industry.
The exhibition will be held jointly with the Taipei International Auto Parts and Accessories Show and the Taipei International Motorcycle Industry Show in Hall 1 of the Taipei World Trade Center's new Nangang Exhibition Hall.
Five products from four firms earned awards in two product segments -- auto electronics parts and components and auto electronics end products, said the show's organizer, the Taipei External Trade Development Council (外貿協會).
The only foreign company to be named among the winners, the Hong Kong branch of Japan-based Fujitsu Electronics, was honored in the components category for its IDB-1394 controller, a device that can enhance in-vehicle video transmission to achieve higher-resolution images.
Making its debut at AutoTronics this year, Baoruh received awards for its fleet management product as well as its vehicle data recorder.
The fleet manager serves as an integrated device and system platform to manage fleets in information-based businesses.
The product has been chosen as the official device used for taxi fleet job assignment and safety management at the 2008 World Games in Kaohsiung.
The company's digital vehicle data recorder provides comprehensive or itemized functions for both real-time job assignments and digital data recording of business vehicles.
AiBelive, founded in 2001 by the research and development team of Academia Sinica, won an award for its Voice Interactive Carputer, described as the world's first intelligent interactive on-board voice system.
The device makes it possible to interact with a virtual car assistant by telling the device to activate dozens of functions, such as providing news and Internet services, satellite navigation, playing music and relaying information on traffic and the stock market.
Following the success of its IntelliTrac X1, which won at the trade show last year, Systems & Technology won the award again this year with an updated version, IntelliTrac X1 PRO.
The latest version can be used for real-time tracking of vehicles, security and emergency rescue, fleet management and location-based information services.
The IntelliTrac series is being used by customers in Taiwan including Honda (for vehicle security), the Environmental Protection Administration (for fleet monitoring) and security service providers (for their armored vehicle monitoring system).
SEMICONDUCTOR SERVICES: A company executive said that Taiwanese firms must think about how to participate in global supply chains and lift their competitiveness Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC, 台積電) yesterday said it expects to launch its first multifunctional service center in Pingtung County in the middle of 2027, in a bid to foster a resilient high-tech facility construction ecosystem. TSMC broached the idea of creating a center two or three years ago when it started building new manufacturing capacity in the US and Japan, the company said. The center, dubbed an “ecosystem park,” would assist local manufacturing facility construction partners to upgrade their capabilities and secure more deals from other global chipmakers such as Intel Corp, Micron Technology Inc and Infineon Technologies AG, TSMC said. It
EXPORT GROWTH: The AI boom has shortened chip cycles to just one year, putting pressure on chipmakers to accelerate development and expand packaging capacity Developing a localized supply chain for advanced packaging equipment is critical for keeping pace with customers’ increasingly shrinking time-to-market cycles for new artificial intelligence (AI) chips, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC, 台積電) said yesterday. Spurred on by the AI revolution, customers are accelerating product upgrades to nearly every year, compared with the two to three-year development cadence in the past, TSMC vice president of advanced packaging technology and service Jun He (何軍) said at a 3D IC Global Summit organized by SEMI in Taipei. These shortened cycles put heavy pressure on chipmakers, as the entire process — from chip design to mass

NO BREAKTHROUGH? More substantial ‘deliverables,’ such as tariff reductions, would likely be saved for a meeting between Trump and Xi later this year, a trade expert said China launched two probes targeting the US semiconductor sector on Saturday ahead of talks between the two nations in Spain this week on trade, national security and the ownership of social media platform TikTok. China’s Ministry of Commerce announced an anti-dumping investigation into certain analog integrated circuits (ICs) imported from the US. The investigation is to target some commodity interface ICs and gate driver ICs, which are commonly made by US companies such as Texas Instruments Inc and ON Semiconductor Corp. The ministry also announced an anti-discrimination probe into US measures against China’s chip sector. US measures such as export curbs and tariffs
