Taiwan software maker Ulead Systems (
German print film manufacturer Agfa (a subsidiary of Bayer) and Olympus agreed to an online photo-finishing service and a software packaging cooperation that put Ulead software on store shelves and Internet sites across Europe.
Under the terms of the Agfa agreement, the companies will link Ulead's online photo sharing Web site www.imira.com and the AGFAnet Print Service to bring online photofinishing to iMira photo-sharing members.
"Many consumers are reluctant to buy digital cameras, because they prefer to have real prints in hand to share their memories," said Per Save, vice president of Agfa Consumer Digital Imaging. "We have the answer to their need: via the AGFAnet Print Service, digital images can be processed and printed as traditional photographs."
With the Agfa service, iMira members will be able to order prints of their online photos from the worldwide AGFAnet Internet Print Service. The photos they select will be automatically transmitted to a professional photofinishing laboratory and then mailed directly to the iMira customer.
Ulead also struck an agreement with Olympus, the largest camera manufacturer in Europe, to include a limited version of Ulead's image-editing software, PhotoImpact, with all new digital cameras introduced in Europe.
Olympus selected Ulead as its bundling partner from a strong group of competitors in order to provide customers with a method of editing newly produced photos.
With the world moving ever faster into the digital world of computer and online photography, consumers will turn to the Internet as a way to store and show friends their most recent photos of kids, vacations, or even professional art and maps.
Falling prices for scanners and digital cameras coupled with faster Internet connection speeds have made image swapping over the Net more and more popular. Ulead's iMira.com provides users with a place to showcase photos.
