North Korea accused South Korea yesterday of restarting a propaganda war, warning of an “uncontrollable catastrophic phase” in relations.
The North’s military accused Seoul of using balloons to send propaganda leaflets across the border, calling it an “intolerable provocative act.”
However, the South’s defense ministry said it stopped sending leaflets in 2004.
Yonhap news agency quoted a source as saying that leaflets criticizing North Korean leader Kim Jong-il and his family were scattered in Pyongyang and the nearby port Nampo on May 1.
Lee Min-bok, a defector who heads the North Korean Christians’ Association, said his group sent leaflets on May 1 detailing “the truth about Kim Jong-il and his family members.”
Meanwhile, the two countries chief nuclear negotiators met for about an hour in at a Chinese state guesthouse in Beijing yesterday on Pyongyang’s nuclear programs.
