Alasania confirmed that two Western-produced electronic chips were found at the site where the missile landed. He said Georgian experts concluded that the missile had been upgraded with these chips so it could detect the country's Soviet radar -- which it could not do with the original Soviet system.

Alasania said he did not know why the hole was covered up but he said the missile was detonated after being extensively photographed because it contained explosives which threatened the lives of Georgian defense experts. The photographs were given to the Russians, he said.
