But it should not be a question of public opinion but rather a question of political will, he said.
There were some judges at the Supreme Court who shared his opinion, but that wasn't enough for a change, he said.
To convince the public, he said the media should be allowed to freely report on any judicial error, particularly because the police regularly force confessions through torture.
"It is because of torture that many innocent people are sentenced to death," he said.
