Hsieh to head committee


A committee charged with the task of applying for the right to organize the 2007 World University Games was formed yesterday, with Kaohsiung Mayor Frank Hsieh (謝長廷) serving as chairman of the committee. Members of the committee include officials from four southern city and county governments, as well as various experts, scholars and local personalities. Kaohsiung Deputy Mayor Lin Yung-chien (林永堅) will fly to Japan and South Korea today as the head of a sports delegation to visit facilities and seek support from the two countries for Taiwan's bid to organize the World Universiade.
