US Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson reiterated Tuesday that the US government supports Taiwan's bid to obtain observer status in the World Health Assembly. Thompson made the reaffirmation after delivering a speech at the National Press Club in Washington. Noting that US support alone is not enough to ensure observer status for Taiwan in the WHA -- the highest decision-making body of the WHO -- Thompson said Taiwan must endeavor to secure support from as many WHA member states as possible.
