The TAIEX index rose 21.50, or 0.4 percent, to 5,663.98. The total value of trade was NT$87.7 billion, about a quarter more than the six-month daily average.

Asustek gained NT$7.5, or 6.6 percent, to NT$120.50. Nanya lost NT$1.9, or 5.8 percent, to NT$30.8.
Au Optronics Corp (
Fubon Financial Holding Co (富邦金控), which controls the nation's largest non-life insurer, rose NT$0.50, or 1.5 percent, to NT$33.8. The company may buy back as much as 20 million of its own shares in its third share repurchase plan at between NT$26 a share and NT$40 through July 6.

MediaTek Inc (聯發科技) rose NT$17, or 2.9 percent, to NT$601. The nation's second-largest chip designer said sales in April almost tripled to NT$2.7 billion from a year ago after demand rose for the disc players in which its semiconductors are used.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manu-facturing Co (台積電), the biggest made-to-order chipmaker, rose NT$1, or 1.2 percent, to NT$82 after saying its earnings are set to get better.
