Highways authority, bus companies offer packages

Staff writer, with CNA

The Directorate-General of Highways and tour bus operators are offering 25 highly discounted bus tours this summer to promote travel across Taiwan.

Among the deals, Kuo-Kuang Motor Transport is offering one-day packages taking tourists to scenic areas in Wanli (萬里) and Jinshan (金山) districts in New Taipei City for NT$199 each, about 33 percent cheaper than normal.

Nantou Bus is offering five different packages featuring the Sun Moon Lake (日月潭) area in Nantou County, with the biggest discount being 34 percent off the normal fare.

A tour run by Pingtung Bus Group from Taichung to Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, an amusement park in Nantou County highlighting the culture of Taiwan’s Aboriginal people, is being offered for NT$1,020, with the price including transportation and admittance to the park.

The packages are to be available until the end of the year.

Other offers among the 25 tours — including to New Taipei City’s Ruifang District (瑞芳) and Fulong Beach (福隆), as well as Yangmingshan — are to run until the end of August, September or October.

In Kinmen County, a discounted tour for NT$90 is to show tourists around the Guningtou Battle Museum, the Shuangli Wetlands Nature Center and sites related to defensive efforts in the aftermath of the Chinese Civil War.

To promote the tours, the public is encouraged to vote for their 10 favorite routes via the Web site www.taiwan2384.thb.gov.tw/2015bs/index.aspx.

Participants’ names will go into a draw for prizes such as tour tickets, smartphones, tablet computers and convenience-store vouchers.

Voting is to close on July 3.
