Stamps featuring portrait photographs of famed singer Teresa Teng (鄧麗君) are now on sale in post offices nationwide to commemorate the 20th anniversary of her death, Chunghwa Post said.

A set consists of four stamps with a face value of NT$5, NT$9, NT$13 and NT$15.

Teng is the first entertainer to be featured in a portrait on a national stamp.

She died at the age of 42 of an asthma attack on May 8, 1995, while on vacation in Thailand.

Teng was a celebrated figure in the Chinese-speaking world. She performed for military personnel stationed in the nation’s outlying islands and for Taiwanese living overseas. The non-profit performances took her to Hong Kong, Japan, the US and Southeast Asia, and she became known as one of the patriotic entertainers and dream girls among soldiers.

“She comforted many souls with her soothing voice and took the art of singing around the globe,” Chunghwa Post said in a statement.

“She was one of the famous stars in the latter half of the 20th century. Her songs can be heard in Taiwan, China and Chinese communities around the globe,” it added.
