Erich Shih (史哲維), news anchorman at CtiTV (中天電視), was found dead at his home in Taipei yesterday.
A preliminary police report indicated the death was likely suicide.
Police said Shih’s wife returned home at about 5pm and found her husband’s body with a plastic bag over his head.
There was no sign of a break-in and although no suicide note was found, police suspect that Shih committed suicide.
“Shih was an outstanding news anchor and he was a great colleague to work with. We will provide assistance to his family and find out more about the situation,” CtiTV spokesman Huang Chun-jen (黃俊仁) said.
Prior to working for CtiTV, Shih was a US correspondent for TVBS from 1996 to 2008.
He had a master’s degree from Georgetown University and had been a research fellow with the Brookings Institution.
