The Tainan Arts Festival, which is to start on April 5 in Greater Tainan, will feature a diverse lineup of groups from Taiwan and abroad, the organizer of the festival said.
The festival will include music, drama and dance shows performed by 59 groups from 11 countries, including Germany, Sweden, Egypt, Brazil and Japan, Greater Tainan Government’s Cultural Affairs Bureau said.
Among the performers are Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi with the Vienna State Opera Chorus; Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc (The Little Singers of Saint Marc) from France; Mark Morris Dance Group and Music Ensemble from the US, and British a cappella ensemble The King’s Singers.
The Taipei Philharmonic Theater is to present its epic musical Zeelandia — Return to Formosa on May 24 and May 25.
The musical tells the story of a Dutch officer who travels to Taiwan in the 17th century in search of his father.
The Taipei-based Evergreen Symphony Orchestra is to perform memorable songs from Leonard Bernstein’s American musical West Side Story, while the film is shown on a big screen at Nanying Green Heart Park on April 12.
The annual festival will continue at various locations across Tainan until June 20.
