More than a thousand people packed into the arrival lobby at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport yesterday morning to catch a glimpse of South Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun, who arrived for a 33-hour visit.
Kim, best known for his leading role in South Korea’s hit television series My Love From the Star as suave alien Do Min-joon, landed ahead of a meet-and-greet scheduled for today in Taipei.
The 26-year-old smiled and waved as he slowly made his way to the exit amid a swarm of photographers and reporters.
About 100 members of staff and 20 security guards helped escort him through the throng, while airport police stepped up security in the lobby to maintain order.
Although Kim is not staying long, the hotel he is staying at has worked to ensure he will get to sample some of the local culinary dishes. It has readied pineapple cakes, radish-stuffed pastries, local fruits and teas and other treats, according to entertainment company Mugeng, the local promoter of Kim’s visit.
My Love From the Star has been a runaway hit in South Korea, Taiwan and China.
It is a romantic comedy about an alien stranded on Earth in the 1600s who, four centuries later, falls in love with a South Korean actress.
