A student at the Military Academy was yesterday charged with the attempted murder of a student guard on campus, Kaohsiung prosecutors said.
At 2:50am on Monday, Wu Kuan-cheng (吳冠呈), a second-grade student, attacked Wu Cheng-yen (吳政諺), who was guarding an entrance to a dormitory, the Military Academy said.
Wu Cheng-yen was stabbed from behind with a 10cm knife and sustained cuts to his throat and other parts of his body before managing to seek help in the dormitory.
The academy said that Wu Cheng-yen was bleeding heavily and had been sent to a military hospital for emergency treatment.
The hospital said his life was not in danger, but he remains in intensive care.
School authorities found Wu Kuan-cheng was missing from the dormitory, that he had overstayed his Lunar New Year leave and was upset at being forced to return to the school, the academy said.
The academy said Wu Kuan-cheng wanted to leave the campus, so he attacked the student guard at the dormitory door.
Wu Kuan-cheng did not respond to questions from reporters as he entered the district prosecutors’ office.
He was arrested by military police in an Internet cafe in Greater Taichung and was sent to the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors’ Office.
Prosecutors said Wu Kuan-cheng admitted the offense, and that they were trying to determine the motive.
