JAPAN DISASTER: Live broadcast of Japan fundraising concert tomorrow

Staff writer, with CNA

Several Taiwanese groups are joining forces to organize a fundraising concert tomorrow to solicit more donations for quake-hit Japan, with President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) scheduled to attend, the organizers said yesterday.

Entertainers from home and abroad, including Japan-based singer Judy Ongg (翁倩玉), will take part in the show. Jay Chou (周杰倫), who is unable to fly back to Taiwan to perform in the fundraiser, hopes to participate via a video call.

The four-hour concert, organized by Chinese Television System (CTS), Taiwan Public Television Service and the Red Cross Society, will be broadcast live beginning at 8pm on four channels.

People can donate money by calling donation lines during the concert.

A song titled Believe will also be recorded to help with fundraising. Written by local band F.I.R.’s Ian Chen (陳建寧), the song will be recorded by more than 50 singers and celebrities.

Ma will also contribute a vocal cameo. He plans to read a four-line segment in the song, a CTS public relations officer said.
