The 2010 Taipei Hot Spring Festival opens next Thursday in Beitou District (北投), with discounts from hot spring hotels and resorts, special cuisine and musical performances.
Sponsored by Taipei City’s Department of Information and Tourism, the festival, now in its 10th year, will run until Nov. 30.
Discounts for local hot spring hotels and resorts will continue through Dec. 30.
Chou Shuei-mei (周水美), president of Sweetme Hotspring Resort and chairperson of the Taipei Hot Springs Association, said about 12 major hot spring hotels and resorts in the famed hot spring district would be offering discounts of up to 60 percent.
The special festival discount packages will be available for purchase at the festival’s opening carnival at Xinbeitou MRT Station plaza from Thursday to Sunday next week.
Chou said the event would also feature live performances of Nakasi music, a form of Taiwanese music performed by the working class, on weekends between Oct. 9 and Nov. 18 at Beitou Park.
For those who want to learn more about the history of Beitou’s hot springs, the Taipei City Government and the association have organized a team of experts on local history and culture to give guided tours on weekends.
