Renowned Israeli organist Roman Krasnovsky will give two concerts next week in southern Taiwan to raise funds for victims of Typhoon Morakot.
Krasnovsky was invited to Taiwan to give a recital at the National Concert Hall in Taipei on Saturday. He will then give two concerts for charity at Tainan Theological College and Seminary on Tuesday and the Ko San Presbyterian Church in Kaohsiung on Thursday.
The Taiwan Holocaust Museum in Tainan, the Tainan City Government and the Kaohsiung Medical University Christian Fellowship are organizing the concerts together with the Israeli trade office.
“After our immediate supply of Israeli water purifiers and water containers to damaged areas in the south, we were looking for additional opportunities to help people [who] suffered and institutions damaged by Typhoon Morakot,” Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei Representative Raphael Gamzou said in a statement released by his office.
“Typhoon Morakot took place in August, yet we felt that even after four months people in the affected southern areas should not be forgotten and [should] feel that we all still care for them and for their mental and physical recovery,” he said.
“The visit of such a great Israeli musician and his full willingness to put his artistic skills in service of this cause paved the way for these two concerts,” Gamzou said.
Pastor Alex Chuo, from a church in Rende Township (仁德), Tainan County, said the concerts will have special meaning given that Krasnovsky is a Holocaust survivor and will visit the Holocaust Museum in Tainan.
Tickets to the charity concerts are NT$500, although some will be given away free.
Chuo encouraged concertgoers to make donations to Kaohsiung Medical University’s free medical service program, which serves mountainous regions battered by Morakot.
The concerts in Tainan and Kaohsiung will begin at 7pm. For further information on the concerts, contact Pastor Chuo at 0933-353-727.
