CLA sponsoring contest to create tools for disabled

    By Shelley Huang

The Council of Labor Affairs (CLA) yesterday launched a contest to find designs that will help disabled employees in the workplace.

The contest, organized by the Disabled Persons Employment and Training Division, invites teams of two to five people — from businesses or individuals — to devise interesting and creative ways to create tools that can assist disabled workers. There will be three divisions — students, enterprises and professionals.

“The Bureau of Employment and Vocational Training hopes the contest will encourage businesses to hire more disabled workers, improving their opportunities to find work, division chief Chou Hui-ling (周惠玲) said.

Contestants have until Sept. 20 to submit their proposals.

The council will shortlist between five and 10 teams from each division. These teams will receive up to NT$30,000 per team to pay for materials to build a prototype of their original design.

The first place team will receive NT$50,000, and second and third places will receive NT$30,000 and NT$10,000 respectively.

The council will hold several seminars around the country this month to promote the contest. Individuals interested in entering the contest are encouraged to attend one of the seminars.

More information on the contest can be found online at www.evta-game.tw.
