Ming Chuan University has developed a set of computer programs that will allow health care professionals to monitor patients¡¦ conditions and check their medical records via mobile phones, the university said yesterday.
The university will collaborate with Taipei Municipal Wan Fang Hospital on the software to help provide more complete and comprehensive care for patients, the school said in a statement.
The software was developed by seven students in the Department of Information Management and won the 3G-Digital Life category in Chunghwa Telecom¡¦s annual software design competition, the statement said.
The university said the software package was designed for use by medical staff, adding that the department would develop other software tools for patients and their families.
Hu Chin-wei (J®Êºû), one of the students on the software team, said that since medical personnel must fill out a number of report forms every day, the team had designed the programs to help simplify the document handling process through a mobile phone data transmission function.
The programs aim to reduce the workload of healthcare workers and freeing up more time for them to take care of patients, he said.
The software¡¦s functions include a real-time advice system that allows doctors to write down suggestions and put the data online; a real-time observation system to allow doctors to monitor patients by mobile phone; and an emergency locator system that enables people to find their physicians or other medical staff.
