Six documentaries that showcase Taiwan’s diversity in natural ecology, animal species and local customs have won “honorable mention” awards at the Columbus International Film and Video Festival, also known as the Chris Awards, Taiwan’s representative office in Chicago said.

The documentaries were produced by Taiwanese filmmakers under the supervision of the Government Information Office (GIO) and the US-based National Geographic Channel.

An award presentation ceremony will be held in Columbus, Ohio, today in which various television channel representatives and Lee Wen-chi (李文琦), press division chief of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago, will attend.

‘BUTTERFLY CODE’

One of the films, The Butterfly Code (蝴蝶密碼), will also receive the Certificate of Excellence for Media of Print for its program pamphlet design, Lee said.

Two other films on the winners list — Cockroach Confidential (蟑螂X檔案) and Black Bear Unleashed (搶救台灣黑熊) — also won awards at the Montana CINE Film Festival that took place earlier this year.

Other winning productions at the Ohio festival include Spacecrab (不可思議的鱟), Super Pig (超級豬) and Spirit Talk (靈域對話).

NATION’S FIRST

GIO officials said that this was the first time the nation had made documentaries with international cooperation, with the aim of strengthening the international competitive edge of the nation’s work in this area.

The series have been broadcast in 34 languages and 166 countries around the world since December 2005, officials said.
