High-tech companies are introducing new products to meet the demand for clean water as consumers struggle with undrinkable water contaminated by bad pipes and dirty water tanks.
The firms are displaying their new technology and equipment at the four-day Taipei International Green Energy, Environmental Protection and Water Show, which opened on Thursday at the Taipei World Trade Center.
The government has been unable to effectively solve the issue of drinking water quality, creating a potentially lucrative market that local private firms are eager to tap.
“Our goal is to make tap water in Taiwan drinkable through a special designed filter, using the most advanced technology, “ said Phoebe Wu, of Libero Water Technology, which is exhibiting its Japan-made products at the fair.
The company’s filter uses advanced technology to remove chlorine, rust and odors from water, while leaving in minerals, Wu said.
Another technique is to use ozone to sterilize running water. The O Three water technology company is displaying at the fair a special device that can be attached to a faucet to pump ozone into running water.
An official at the Taipei Water Department said that the problem with the country’s tap water was not the water itself but the pipes and water tanks.
He said that aging water pipes could cause contamination, making them undrinkable.
Moreover, most apartment and office buildings’ rooftop water tanks are not cleaned regularly, which can also damage tap water quality, he said.
Taiwan would benefit from more integrated military strategies and deployments if the US and its allies treat the East China Sea, the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea as a “single theater of operations,” a Taiwanese military expert said yesterday. Shen Ming-shih (沈明室), a researcher at the Institute for National Defense and Security Research, said he made the assessment after two Japanese military experts warned of emerging threats from China based on a drill conducted this month by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) Eastern Theater Command. A rally held by opposition parties yesterday demonstrates that Taiwan is a democratic country, President William Lai (賴清德) said yesterday, adding that if opposition parties really want to fight dictatorship, they should fight it on Tiananmen Square in Beijing. The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) held a protest with the theme “against green communists and dictatorship,” and was joined by the Taiwan People’s Party. Lai said the opposition parties are against what they called the “green communists,” but do not fight against the “Chinese communists,” adding that if they really want to fight dictatorship, they should go to the right place and face
