The legislature will review an amendment to the Law Governing Legislators¡¦ Exercise of Power (¥ßªk°|¾Åv¦æ¨Ïªk) proposed by Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Legislator Daniel Hwang Yih-jiau (¶À¸q¥æ) that calls for fines for government officials who fail to attend legislative meetings.

The proposed amendment suggests that government officials who fail to attend legislative meetings without a valid excuse should be fined NT$30,000 per violation.

¡§So far, we have dealt with government officials who try to avoid facing questions at the legislature patiently and politely,¡¨ Hwang said. ¡§But those who ignore us will continue to ignore us and something must be done about that.¡¨

Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Chai Trong-rong (½²¦Pºa) has proposed an amendment to the Criminal Code (¦Dªk) so that government officials who ignore the legislature would be charged with violating the code.
