RESCUE
The head of the train crew then rang the fire department and a hospital in Ilan County and asked them to wait at Lotung (
The team had trouble pulling the newborn out of the toilet because her left leg was wedged in the basin. The administration decided to bring in a mechanic to help out and the baby was eventually pulled from the toilet at around 11:30am.
Lotung's Po-Ai Hospital said later yesterday that both mother and daughter were doing fine and enjoying a well-deserved rest.
The hospital said the baby was Shao's third child and weighed in at approximately 3kg. It said the baby had been born after the normal gestation period.
Besides minor lacerations to the lower part of its body, the baby's life was not in any danger, the hospital said.
CONGRATULATIONS
The TRA issued a statement last night congratulating Shao on the birth of her child. It also presented her with NT$6,000 and some baby products as gifts.
A coupon was also given to Shao's family, enabling them to travel around Taiwan by train for free.
Taiwan would benefit from more integrated military strategies and deployments if the US and its allies treat the East China Sea, the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea as a “single theater of operations,” a Taiwanese military expert said yesterday. Shen Ming-shih (沈明室), a researcher at the Institute for National Defense and Security Research, said he made the assessment after two Japanese military experts warned of emerging threats from China based on a drill conducted this month by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) Eastern Theater Command. The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) held a protest with the theme “against green communists and dictatorship,” and was joined by the Taiwan People’s Party. Lai said the opposition parties are against what they called the “green communists,” but do not fight against the “Chinese communists,” adding that if they really want to fight dictatorship, they should go to the right place and face
