Economic official calls for increased Italian business ties

A Taiwanese economic official in Italy on Thursday called for collaboration between the Italian and Taiwanese business and industrial sectors.

Speaking at an Italy-Taiwan investment prospects seminar held in the northern Italian city of Ravenna, Chen Tsung-chieh (陳聰潔), chief of the Taiwan Representative Office in Italy's Economic Division, said Italian manufacturers have strong assets in terms of industrial design and creativity, while their Taiwanese counterparts are known for their manufacturing prowess.

Chen said that although two-way trade between Italy and Taiwan surged 17 percent in the first six months of this year to US$2.1 billion, there is still room for growth.
