A survey has suggested that foreign visitors do not have a favorite tourist attraction in Kaohsiung, a Kaohsiung city councilor said yesterday.
The survey, commissioned by Kaohsiung City Councilor Lien Li-chien (連立堅) of the Democratic Progressive Party, was conducted by National University of Kaohsiung between October and December last year. Three-hundred-and-three foreign tourists took part.
Twenty-eight percent of the respondents were from Japan, 20 percent hailed from Hong Kong, Macau or China while 26 percent visited from Europe or the US.
The survey found that 73 percent of respondents did not have a preferred attraction. Ninety-one percent of respondents did not have a strong dislike for any particular tourist attraction.
Lien said the fact that the overwhelming majority of respondents did not list a favorite location suggested that the attractions in Kaohsiung were not impressive enough for foreigners.
He urged the Kaohsiung City Government to enhance its marketing strategy to attract foreign visitors.
The majority of those who did write down a preferred location chose the Lioho Night Market (六合夜市).
