The UN General Assembly's exclusion of Taiwan's application for membership from the agenda of its 62nd session opening last week did not discourage Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) campaigners in favor of holding the proposed referendum on seeking UN membership under the name "Taiwan."
The youth department of DPP presidential candidate Frank Hsieh's (謝長廷) campaign yesterday encouraged the public to upload their own photos and videos of the party's Sept. 15 Kaohsiung demonstration in support of the proposed referendum.
The department asked those who participated in the 4km parade to post their images on Web sites such as YouTube to "share the feelings of the rally and [help the world] understand what the rally meant to Taiwan."
Head of the youth department Chang Chia-ling (張嘉玲) said the campaign, "I love Taiwan loves me. Let's show off Taiwan together" (我愛台灣愛我,把台灣 show 出來)," encouraged the public to use the power of the Internet to express their desire for representation in the UN.
"Through the Internet, we can tell the world that Taiwan is ready to be a member of the UN and that Taiwanese people are willing to embrace the world and make contributions to the world," she said. "This will be a film festival launched by the Taiwanese people to show their love for Taiwan."
She said this would allow Taiwan's voice to be heard by the world in spite of Taiwan's membership application being excluded from the UN agenda.
