The association issued the statement in response to a claim made by Chen in a televised interview on Friday that between 70 percent and 80 percent of the nation's judges and judiciary are biased in favor of the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT).
The statement said the allegation was "completely unfounded."

The judges said it was deplorable that the president had once again made remarks unbecoming his position as head of state and in total disregard of the fact that such remarks could erode public trust in the judicial system despite the best efforts of the judiciary.
The statement said that if the president had evidence of improper behavior by certain judges or members of the judiciary he should order an investigation.
This was the second time in a little over a month that the judges' association has issued a statement to dispute the "unfounded" remarks by the president.
On July 31, the association released a statement taking issue with remarks Chen made while receiving a foreign visitor. At the time, the president alleged that members of the judiciary were attempting to interfere in the next presidential election.
The judges said such accusations would only hurt the nation's image and undermine the people's trust in the judicial system.

A 79-year-old woman died today after being struck by a train at a level crossing in Taoyuan, police said. The woman, identified by her surname Wang (王), crossed the tracks even though the barriers were down in Jhongli District’s (中壢) Neili (內壢) area, the Taoyuan Branch of the Railway Police Bureau said.
