A total of NT$25.7 billion (US$784 million), part of a funding package for a US arms procurement deal, passed the legislature last month, NT$200 million of which was earmarked for the ministry to assess the feasibility of the submarine purchase.
The ministry initially asked for NT$4.537 billion to buy the submarines in its budget for this fiscal year, but the figure was slashed by KMT and People First Party legislators, who strongly oppose the deal.

Hong Kong singer Eason Chan’s (陳奕迅) concerts in Kaohsiung this weekend have been postponed after he was diagnosed with Covid-19 this morning, the organizer said today.
