The sister of former TV entertainer Mark Selikoff has taken issue with a story in the Taipei Times about the support her brother has received from friends and family.
Contrary to what a story in yesterday's edition ("Selikoff faces crisis as insurance dries up," page 2) said, many of Mr. Selikoff's celebrity friends have come forward to support him, said Rachel Selikoff.
Rachel Selikoff said her purpose in speaking with the media was not to cast aspersions on Mr. Selikoff's friends and supporters
Rather, she said, she was trying to highlight the fact that despite the help he has already received, Mr. Selikoff and his family face a potential crisis in funding his medical treatment once his insurance coverage ends in October.
She had not implied that Mr. Selikoff's celebrity friends were not providing adequate assistance, she said, stating that she had only meant that many people have the impression that because of his celebrity, Mr. Selikoff had already received adequate donations to cover the costs incurred by his healthcare.
Rachel Selikoff said she did not want people to have the impression that the family was in any way ungrateful for the help they have already received.
All donations go directly to provide for Mr. Selikoff's medical expenses and care for his wife and children, she said.
Mr. Selikoff was severely injured in a motorcycle accident last September.
Anyone wishing to make a donation to help with Mr. Selikoff's medical expenses can send money to the Union Bank in Jhongli, account number 060500125678. The account is in the name of Mr. Selikoff's four-year old son, Shih Wei-che (石維哲).
