National Communications Commission (NCC) members Wu Chung-chi (吳忠吉) and Liu Kung-chung (劉孔中) have stopped attending meetings after they received orders from the Central Personnel Administration yesterday morning.
accused
Wu and Liu were accused by the Executive Yuan of illegally hiring family members as their personal drivers, although both have insisted that everything was done legally.
"The administration has sent us the formal administrative order by fast delivery, which arrived at 11am," NCC spokesperson Liu Zong-de (劉宗德) said.
"The order took effect immediately after we received the order," Liu said.
The order prevents both Wu and Liu from using their offices and from participating any discussions, he said.
Cabinet Spokeswoman Chen Mei-ling (陳美伶) said at a press conference held after yesterday morning's weekly NCC Cabinet meeting that both Wu and Liu would not be allowed to get involved in any NCC related activities from now on.
The government will also stop paying Wu and Liu their salaries, she added.
"Now that they are relieved of their jobs, it means that they are not NCC members anymore," she said.
violating the law
They will be violating the law if they continue to be involved in any NCC related activities, including attending NCC or related meetings or by participating in any process of NCC's making decisions.
Chen said it is Wu's and Liu's legal right to appeal such an order but until then, they are no longer NCC members.
"I sincerely hope that Wu and Liu would not damage the NCC's credibility by insisting upon their involvement. It is not helping at all," she said.
