Hu, fiancee test positive for marijuana

    By Rich Chang

Test results revealed that TV show host Hu Gua (J¥Ê) and his fiancee Ding Ro-an (¤B¬X¦w) used marijuana, the Ministry of Justice's Investigation Bureau (MJIB) said yesterday.

"Hu was found to have used marijuana from last September to last November and Ding used marijuana from last November to January," MJIB official Liao Huang (¬h·×) told a press conference.

Taipei prosecutors found marijuana at Hu's home last Friday night while searching for evidence in an investigation into allegations he had bribed a Taipei District Court judge.

Taipei prosecutors said Hu and Ding later admitted they had used marijuana, but said they had quit and had not touched marijuana since the Lunar New Year.

Liao said that investigators had taken a sample of Hu and Ding's hairs to conduct the test and that based on the length of the hair they could determine when they had used marijuana.

Test results showed that Hu and Ding used marijuana on many occasions, but the pair did not use other drugs, Liao added.

Accompanied by his lawyer Hsu Ling-chu (®}¬Â¯ü), Hu later held a press conference.

Hsu said Hu used marijuana only once during his gambling case trial.

Hu was charged with installing hidden cameras in his residence to cheat fellow gamblers during high-stakes mahjong games.

She said Hu had been in a bad mood during the trial and had used marijuana to relax.

She added the marijuana seized by investigators at Hu's residence was moldy, proving it had not been used for a long time.

"I am really sorry about the wrong things I have done," Hu told the press conference.
