Taichung Mayor Jason Hu (胡志強) and his wife Shaw Hsiao-ling (邵曉鈴) were injured yesterday evening in a car accident in Tainan County. Hu suffered only minor injuries and was able to walk into hospital unaided. His wife sustained a head injury and a fractured left arm. As of press time, she was in the intensive care unit at Tainan's Chimei Hospital but her life was not in danger. Last night's accident took place on the north-bound section of the Formosa Freeway when Hu and his wife were heading back to Taichung City from Kaohsiung City after campaigning for the Chinese Nationalist Party's (KMT) Kaohsiung candidate Huang Chun-ying (黃俊英). According to TVBS cable news, the car carrying Hu and his wife rolled over after hitting another vehicle on the freeway. The couple were rushed to the nearby Chimei Hospital in Tainan. Shaw was unconscious at one point but regained consciousness after treatment, TVBS said.

The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) caucus yesterday said it opposes the introduction of migrant workers from India until a mechanism is in place to prevent workers from absconding. Minister of Labor Hung Sun-han (洪申翰) on Thursday told the Legislative Yuan that the first group of migrant workers from India could be introduced as early as this year, as part of a government program.
