The National Fire Agency launched an International Workshop on Disaster Recovery and Rescue at its headquarters in Taipei yesterday. Emergency preparedness officials and academics from the US, Japan, Italy, France and Finland are attending the workshop to share their experiences in coping with natural and man-made disasters. Vice Premier Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) delivered the keynote speech, saying that due to recent disasters like Sept. 11, Hurricane Katrina and the 2004 tsunami, governments worldwide were putting a higher premium on disaster recovery and rescue operations.
