The Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp's board approved a proposed fare list yesterday. The ticket prices, however, still have to be approved by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications. The high speed rail will offer two tiers of tickets: regular cars or business cars. The elderly, children and the handicapped will be able to purchase half-price tickets. Under the proposed fare schedule, passengers will be charged NT$3.655 per kilometer. People traveling from Taipei to Kaohsiung, for example, would pay NT$1,490 for a regular car ticket, while a regular car ticket for Taipei to Taichung would cost NT$700.
