A staff member with Taiwan's embassy in Haiti died on Thursday at a hospital in Port-au-Prince after failing to respond to emergency medical treatment, according to Taiwanese diplomats stationed in Washington. Liu Chia-ning (劉嘉甯) was first diagnosed as having food poisoning, and appeared to have recovered after undergoing emergency treatment. However, a few minutes later he lost consciousness, and doctors were unable to resuscitate him. According to Liu's colleagues, he had previously suffered from heart disease. He was rushed to the hospital after claiming he had chest pain. Liu, 50, formerly served at Taiwan's embassy in the Vatican.
