Taiwan Quick Take: A week of rain forecast

STAFF WRITER WITH CNA

The Central Weather Bureau yesterday warned of heavy rainfall this week as seasonal winds from the northeast are forecast to affect the entire nation. Tropical storm Shanshan is also approaching Taiwan. As of 4:30pm yesterday, the center of the storm was located approximately 1,050km southeast of Naha, Okinawa, and was moving northwest at 12kph. Bureau forecasters said they will know by Thursday whether the storm will hit Taiwan. "The force of high pressure from the Pacific Ocean might be reduced, which will in turn affect the weather conditions after Thursday," said Hsieh Ming-chang (謝明昌), a bureau spokesman. Temperatures for the rest of the week are expected to range between 24 degrees Celsius to 30 degrees Celsius.
