The Taipei City Government plans to produce 10 commemorative T-shirts in honor of Taiwan-born pitcher Wang Chien-ming (王建民), famed for his outstanding performance in the US Major League, according to a spokesman for the city's Information Department. The shirts will be on permanent display at the Discovery Center of Taipei, the spokesman said. Other people whose portraits might be used to make commemorative T-shirts include Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九), Taiwan-born film director Ang Lee (李安) and writer Wang Wen-hua (王文華), the spokesman said, adding that the Information Department would make public the celebrity T-shirts in the near future. According to a Taiwanese student studying in New York surnamed Fang, Wang has succeeded in gaining fame in the international sports arena and helped New Yorkers increase their understanding of Taiwan. "Many New Yorkers might have not heard of Taiwan before, but the situation has changed since Wang came," Fang said.
